Cedar's eye

Cedar and I spent our first few months together getting to know one another! One of the reasons we thought so highly of her initially is how well she handles herself. When we first saw her she was only four years old, being ridden by a rider unfamilair to her, in a dressage clinic, at a place she'd never been to before, and she was very composed. We were impressed! I continue to expose her to new places and things, and she takes it all in stride. The Hunter Ring, Jumper Ring, Foxhunting, Dressage, Eventing and even Team Penning...it seems that she's willing to at least try anything she's asked.

We went to several hunter schooling shows our first year together. We had a lot of fun and enjoyed some success, even earning three high point awards...two at Brookwood schooling shows and one year-end award presented by Freedom Farm in Port Angeles for a schooling series that included points earned at Sandamar Farm in Poulsbo and the Bainbridge Island Saddle Club. We had a great time at all of those shows...meeting a lot of people and making some new friends!

Cedar...pretty girl!

It's beautiful up at Freedom Farm...located in the area known as Western Washington's sunbelt! We competed out in the huntfield as well as in the arena.

In September that year we went to Octoberfest...a rated show. Cedar was such a good girl. I was very pleased with having placed in 5 of 8 classes...including a third place in a class with over 30 entries!

Out in the huntfield

I think the most fun I had that year was competing in the Woodbrook Hunt Club Hunter Trials! We had a great time, missing Junior High Point by the narrowest of margins! I don't have any pictures...it rained all day...not ideal camera weather! The picture at left was taken when I went out to the huntfield to school a few days before. The soggy weather didn't dampen spirits though! Everyone was so friendly!

The next day was a new experience for Cedar and me. We rode out with the Woodbrook Hunt! I had previously had the opportunity to go along a few times when the hounds were just being taken out for exercise...so Cedar wasn't entirely surprised by all of the activity. I rode in the "first field"...it was very exciting! Again, friendly people made for a good time. I hope to go on another hunt.

We spent that winter (2000-2001) working on dressage. My goal was to compete in the Camas Meadows Horse Trials next May...so we had a lot of work to do. We went to a dressage schooling show and did "OK" for our first time. We also competed in two JumperNites...even placing once! That was a lot of fun!
