Meet Cedar! Show Name "City Lights" page 1 Michelle on Cedar In about August of 1999 I began looking for a horse that would be more suitable for the kinds of things I wanted to do. I had the opportunity to try several nice horses and meet many nice people. My search came to an end in November after meeting Michelle Jacobs and the wonderful thoroughbred mare she had offered for sale! This was really love at first sight! For awhile it did seem as if she would never become mine. We kept bumping into obstacles...such as coordinating schedules for a professional evaluation...scheduling a pre-puchase exam...arranging for Cedar's transport, etc. Michelle was wonderful though...extremely encouraging and patient...my mom persevered, and Cedar finally became mine January 12, 2000! I was so excited to finally have Cedar with me! I could hardly believe that she was really mine. She's a 1995, Washington bred foal by Gallant Best, out of Easter Freedom. Because the Jockey Club has kept such careful records over the years I was able to trace her bloodlines clear back to her Arabian roots! Some well known names turned up in her pedigree...including Bull Lea, Nashrullah, Man O'War, Swaps, Nearco and others. It's our understanding that although bred for the track, tatooed, and trained by a jockey, she never raced. We are unsure why...but if she was as much of a pain at the starting gate as she is at a mounting block that could explain it <grin>! She's an impatient girl and doesn't like to stand around! We are (ahem...) still addressing this issue! Here we are on our first full day together! Cedar settled right in at Brookwood and started to make new friends. In the above photos she is meeting her new "brother" Andrew ( at left) and saying hello to Pebbles, a little mini mare that lives at Brookwood!
